So many people run from their pasts. They want to put as much distance between them and their addiction, impulsive behaviors, or other setbacks as possible, but I say they are your secret power to live free! You can use your past to your benefit, working for you, not against you. Your story is the bridge others will cross as you make a difference in the lives of many!
One of my favorite lines comes from a movie made in 2002 adapted from the book of the same name written in 1975. In Tuck Everlasting, the family had found the fountain of youth. When a young girl outside the family was to partake in the magic water, the father in the family, Tuck, gave her some things to think about that would change the course of her life forever.
We know about fear of failure, but the fear of success? Yes, it’s a real fear and affects more people than you think. In the workplace or marketplace, you might not think you can live up to the image that your newfound prosperity requires. Those who unconsciously don’t accept their success can hopefully come to the realization they are “enough” and worthy of the accolades they’ve been awarded. Otherwise, they may implode and lose the status and momentum they fought so hard to get.
Why is it that some of the happiest people in the world are the ones who have had the toughest life? They know they’re not entitled to anything, but life is a gift. Sometimes you don’t appreciate what you’ve got until it’s almost gone. People who’ve escaped bondage most appreciate freedom, and they have a deep sense of gratitude for the things in their lives. Life is a gift, and it’s best spent in the passionate pursuit of one’s mission. Have goals and a desired future, but the happiness and joy is in the journey.
This is the Welcome Video on my website (https://rickwhiting.com/), and my hope is that it captures the opportunity ahead for men in recovery from chemical dependence. I help them first establish a rock solid foundation of strength, confidence, and awareness of who they are and where they’re going. Free from the prison of addiction and free from the prison of the mind, we exchange the lies that try to hold us back for truth. Then we are about the business of building a legacy with a renewed mind and heart. The life messages they carry are remarkable and so is their impact. What I do is as my tagline says, “Redeeming the Past for Your Limitless Future”
A life in recovery is not a limitation. That shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, but it’s amazing how so many people stay in the struggles of their addiction thinking a new life without drugs or alcohol will be boring. The funny part is we’re thinking life won’t be better on the other side while our lives are falling apart from the craziness of addiction. There’s a million times more life in recovery! You need a renewed mind and a renewed heart, and you begin to see what’s important, what matters, what love is, what awareness is, and more. You’re not hooked to a substance that rules you. You get to feel things, you get to care, and you get to live deeper and live well if you choose to. You won’t get DUIs if you don’t drink. You won’t be busted for dope if you don’t have any. You won’t crash your car and hurt someone because you were impaired. No hangovers, out of control emotions, lost jobs, making an ass of ourselves, and you get the picture. The real prizes are your freedom and who you can become. Your only limitations now are your imagination and willingness.
