Pull Your Sword from the Stone

If you’ve read or have seen the Sword and the Stone, you’ve undoubtedly pictured yourself standing in front of the huge rock with the blade of a sword lodged inside. You imagined it’s your turn to pull the sword to see if you’re the true heir to the throne.

And just like Arthur did, you briskly yank the sword, and with a welcomed metal scratching sound, you pull the sword from the stone and raise it high above your head in elation. The crowd roars. Everyone begins chanting your name. You are celebrated and hailed. Your spirits raise high. You catch your breath and join the thundering spectators with a yell of your own.

You know your destiny has changed forever, and soon you’ll live a life of nobility, grandeur, and glory. In just a matter of time, you’re guaranteed to assume the life most people can only dream of.

And just as quickly as you were up and inspired, your emotions crash back down to reality. The reality of life as it is. Here. Now.

How wide is the divide? How far away are you from reaching the point of knowing you’re on your way to the life you dream of? What comes to mind when you think about the possibilities? Is it within reach, or is it as far away as the fictioned Camelot?

Does it seem that everyone else are pulling their swords from the rock and are on their way to living like kings, but you never get a chance? Or like young Arthur, you figured you didn’t measure up or have the strength for a major breakthrough?

Throughout his childhood, Arthur was teased and taunted for being a fatherless son. His adopted parents even looked down on him, and Arthur grew up in shame never knowing his true lineage. In his mind, he didn’t have a reason to be excited about his future. His confidence suffered as a result.

Have people made you feel that you don’t have what it takes to build a life of your dreams? You’re not talented enough? Not smart enough?

Then came addiction. We’re often convinced that the actions of our past disqualify us from a better future. Thoughts of failure can negate our willingness to even try. Decisions wait for approval or a positive sign from others.

Those are lies you’ve been told. Lies that have accumulated over time. Guess who told you most of those lies that? You did.

There’s a gap between where you are now and where you want to be in the future when you’re living your best imagined, yet attainable, life. The distance is probably less than you think. Somewhere in between is your sword and stone moment where doubts give way to confidence, confusion to clarity, and thoughts to action.

The thought of getting there can be daunting and puzzling. Where do you start? How do you know if you’re doing things the right way? The fact that you’re here – that’s a start. Stay with me. If you stay clean, willing, honest, and coachable, you’re off to a great start!

Believe the path exists and take a step. Don’t worry about all the details. Your next steps will present themselves in time. With a strong purpose, your “how” will practically falls into place.

Ask yourself this. “What needs to be true that’s not true now for me to get where I want to go?”

A long time ago, I was where you probably are. I knew something was missing and realized that I had been settling for far less than I was probably capable of. I had bought into the myth that I was somewhat a bad person for disappointing so many people over the years and resigned to the notion that I didn’t deserve a great life.

False beliefs ruled most of Arthur’s life. He may have never tried to do anything of value if it weren’t for a wizard named Merlin who became his friend, mentor, and leader. Merlin taught him the truth about who he was and the power that he had inside of him. He taught Arthur about the power of good, of love, leadership, and generosity. Over a fairly short period of time, Merlin brought out Arthur’s true potential.

When it was time, Arthur pulled the sword and assumed his God-given place in the kingdom.

Friends and family helped me see the truth about myself, others, and the world around me. My “Merlins” empowered me to seek beyond the identity of an addiction.

Incredibly, all my experience in previous jobs, hobbies, gifts, strengths, interests, skills, what I love to do for fun, the way I interact with people, the things I do well, and the special talents I had were all to culminate for a time such as this.

Since I’ve been a life coach, nothing of my past has been wasted. God uses it all. It all matters. I realized I had everything I needed to begin my journey and the only thing standing in my way was me!

I just had to come to a point I was willing to change, leave the baggage behind, and I knew I couldn’t wait another day. I set out on the journey to a better me. The work was a joy. The progress remarkable.

I confidently approached the stone, wrapped my hand around the sword handle and pulled. Next thing I know I’m holding the sword high above me in the air. I knew something was different. I was on my way to great things, and it was time to build the kingdom. Metaphorically speaking of course. My life has never been the same.

Let me tell you the truth right now. Unshakeable confidence, overwhelming success, and true happiness are not only possible, but they are well in reach.

Your father God is the King, and he thinks you’re awesome! He has a plan for you. A plan better than you can imagine. Who can show you the way? Bring out your best self? Help you know the truth about who you are and what you’re capable of?

Well, I’ll be your Merlin. I believe in you. You’re capable of great things, and I can help you realize and achieve your potential.

Your addiction may have set you back, but only temporarily. Here’s good news. That pit of despair, the struggles, and the pain can become your Excalibur. Your story is your sword, and your life can be a beacon of light for others.

My passion is to help you develop your personal tale, find your message, and incorporate it into your personal brand. Sharing your experience and hope is a win-win for all who hear it.

You’re ready. Get your spirits up and take action. Your sword is loosed and ready for you!
